The City of Brisbane has partnered with HdL to administer the business license program commencing with the 2024 renewal season. Renewals can be made via HdL's businss license portal: brisbane.hdlgov.com.

For questions about filing or renewing your business license, please contact HdL at brisbane@hdlgov.com or call (415) 240-4471. Their operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. PT.

The Planning and Fire Departments work in conjunction with the Finance Department to make sure businesses are in compliance with having a current business license on file.

Any person engaging in business in the City must first apply and receive a business license from the City of Brisbane and pay the business license fee; any business having its location or mailing address in the City of Brisbane or any out-of-town business operating in the City is required to maintain an active business license with the City of Brisbane. See the Business License Tax Fee Schedule in HdL's portal (under 'Download Forms') for the approximate business license fee you will need to pay.

Please note: There is a new column on the back page of the application where a Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code must be identified. Find your SIC code here. Enter a keyword in the second search bar and click, "SIC Search". Review the list and make the selection that best describes the business. You can click on the SIC number or SIC Title for additional information. A list of SIC codes to be used for contractors can be found here; a hard copy is also available to view at the Finance Counter.
