September is National Preparedness Month.  View the PowerPoint "Preparing for Emergencies"  by OES Director Randy Breault.

Everyone is encouraged to take this interactive quiz to test your quake knowledge and learn how you can get prepared for an earthquake:
Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water, and no telephone service.  Imagine that all businesses are closed and you are without any kind of emergency service. What will you do until help arrives?  Are you prepared if this hypothetical becomes a reality?

Brisbane is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and man-made.  Earthquakes, fires, severe storms, and power outages, are just to name a few of the potential emergencies we may encounter. Any of these could quickly overwhelm local resources.

Chapter 2.28 of the Brisbane Municipal code created the office of Director of Emergency Services, and states that the purposes of that chapter are " provide for the preparation and carrying out of plans for the protection of persons and property within the city in the event of an emergency; the direction of the emergency organization; and the coordination of the emergency functions of the city with all other public agencies, corporations, organizations, and affected private persons."
