Erin Becker

OSEC at Day in the Park

Erin, pictured left, is seen with fellow OSEC Member Michele Salmon, Mayor Coleen Mackin, OSEC Members Glenn Fieldman and Shanna Calmes, Sustainability Manager Adrienne Etherton, and OSEC Member Jason Nunan at the 2022 Day in the Park Festival.

Erin’s lived in the Bay Area for over 20 years and when she “finally” discovered Brisbane, she knew she needed to live here (though it took four years and the real estate slowdown during Shelter in Place to find their home).

I joined OSEC earlier this year to help protect San Bruno Mountain, our coastal waterfront, and the city that we all call home.  Brisbane is a special town on the San Francisco Peninsula, both in terms of its natural environment and its human community.  I'm proud to live in a town with an Open Space and Ecology Committee (OSEC).”

In her day job, Erin is an aerospace engineer at NASA Ames Research Center, working on advanced technology development since 2008.

“Working as a civil servant provides a unique perspective in meeting stakeholders desires with limited budgets.  I believe the role of government is to protect the things that cannot protect themselves, which includes the environment.  This is why I joined the Open Space and Ecology Committee.”

In her free time, Erin enjoys “taming” their property, removing invasive species, planting natives, and making her overall landscaping more drought-tolerant.  She’s also “geeked out” on finding creative ways to reduce/reuse their shower warm-up water and laundry water to irrigate the downhill plants and wishes she had more time to get back into homebrewing and other fermentation studies.  It’s maybe no wonder Erin and her husband won OSEC’s 2021 Virtual Climate Jeopardy Tournament!

Having moved to Brisbane during Shelter in Place, there are a lot of people in the community she hasn't met.  Feel free to contact her at osec-becker@brisbaneca.org to say hello or if you have any questions or concerns.
