Tom Seawell

Seawell Family

Tom was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission in February 2022 and is currently serving a 4-year term.  Along with his family, he’s well-acquainted with all the facilities, including the trails, pool, and fields.  Tom grew up playing soccer (starting at age 5) where his dad was his soccer coach.  He serves as the Assistant Coach for his daughter’s AYSO soccer team, strongly believing (and very grateful for) a female Head Coach, who's a strong role model for the U14 girls team (thank you, Coach Liz Larson)!

Since the age of 25, Tom had been working as a commercial photographer, interfacing with almost every major brand in the Bay Area.  However, things changed for him when he started working more with one of his clients, UCSF Medical Center.  Along with photography, he was doing film work, and when he produced a number of patient stories, his company, Seawell Productions, which had their studio in the Dogpatch for 27 years, started getting noticed.  They were nominated four years in a row actually for an Emmy and won one in 2019!  You can see more of these Stories here on UCSF Medical Center’s YouTube channel.  Additionally, Tom’s been working on a feature documentary film for 12 years called “Frost”, a tribute to Tom Frost, a visionary who redefined climbing style, and the engineer, photographer, and conservationist who were pivotal in the history of Yosemite big wall climbing.  Check out flatlanderfilms.com – coming out soon!

“I’ve always loved working hard, telling stories, especially emotional story-telling.  I really love my job, every minute of it.  And our offices, UCSF Health, are located right here at Sierra Point!”

Tom helped start UCSF Health Productions two months before the pandemic hit.  He’s been thoroughly enjoying working in the “corporate world”, even after working for himself his entire career.  He’s also enjoying his time so far on the Parks and Recreation Commission, where one of his subcommittee assignments includes serving on the Public Arts Advisory Committee.

“I’ve learned a lot so far and it’s opened my eyes.  I think where I can play a part, and where my strengths lie, are offering creative ideas and virtually painting pictures for future projects the Commission and Arts Committee take on.”
