Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2023

Tai Chi Yuen

May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a celebration of the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.  The national theme for AAPI Heritage Month 2023 is “Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity”.  A special proclamation is being planned for the May 4, 2023 City Council Meeting.

On March 18, 2022, the Brisbane City Council passed Resolution 2021-25 affirming the City’s commitment to the well-being and safety of the AAPI Community.  We continue striving to ensure all residents and community members feel safe and protected in Brisbane.  That is why you can now access a 24/7 Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 347-2070 and webform.  Please help be our officers' eyes and ears in the community so that we can all help preserve Brisbane's close-knit and safe atmosphere.

AAPI Celebration

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the second largest ethnic group in the City of Brisbane at 35%, and the fastest growing racial group in the United States.  The Brisbane City Council encourages greater participation, inclusion, and leadership training for our AAPI residents, acknowledging they will be instrumental to the future success of our City.

Brisbane’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accountability (IDEA) Committee is holding a series of community events called the #WeAreBrisbane Series to celebrate the diversity in our city and the importance of building community through the sharing of arts and culture, learning, and connecting.  The first of the series is in the month of May in celebration of National Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month through a 2-hour celebration under the Community Park Gazebo on May 20th from 10am - 12pm, featuring local artists, cultural performers, and restaurants. More details can be found here.

In a variety of genres, these titles are written by Asian authors and include diverse characters or stories.  Check out their staff-curated "AAPI Children's Book List" and "AAPI Young  Adult Picks."
