June Heavner - 2022

June Heavner

As a true steward of building community here in Brisbane, June Heavner has served on the Mothers of Brisbane (MOB) board for over 8 years.  The MOB is an invaluable resource to all Brisbane families.  It is a source of community both online through email and Facebook forums, and in-person through events and activities including: Tiny Tots Playgym, the Easter Egg Hunt, Day in the Park, the MOB shop, and coordinating meal deliveries for new parents.  Much of this volunteerism was accomplished with a baby strapped to her chest.  Now that her children are older, she is working with a new group of mothers to make sure the traditions of the MOB carry on.

June has also been a force at Silverspot and Brisbane Elementary schools.  She attends site committee meetings contributing thoughtfully to conversations and challenges being addressed.  She serves on BES PTO and gets the word out about fundraisers that not only help the kids, but Brisbane eateries.  She consistently steps in as a room parent and volunteers to support teachers and classrooms and has coordinated meet & greet events for incoming Kindergarten families and their teachers.  It doesn’t stop there!  She spontaneously weeds the BES garden and was heavily involved in the "Yes on G" measure to keep arts and music in our schools.  She stuffs the Thursday folders at BES and helped to arrange the "fun run" with the PTO.  She is someone many parents in our community turn to when help is needed.

Although she doesn’t particularly love soccer, she coached for AYSO last year to fill a need. Outside of school, she organizes family hikes up the mountain, carrying pizza for people to enjoy at the top and bubbles for the kids.  June is also on the Friends of the Brisbane Library (FOBL) Board, and volunteers for all of their events and projects. She has been affectionately described by other board members as “THE GLUE”.  She's a quiet powerhouse in this town and when something needs doing (especially for the youth of Brisbane), she gets it done.  She has and continues to volunteer her time in countless ways all while remaining in the background and never asking for anything in return.

June works tirelessly to make a difference in our community.  She is giving of her time, energy, and effort to improve the quality of life for people of all ages and demographics. She is selfless and represents the true spirit of this award.  After many years of volunteerism in our community, we take this opportunity to express our gratitude for June!

Thank you, June.  Your unselfish and dedicated service has made a significant difference in our community and contributes to the wonderful quality of life in Brisbane!
