Sierra Point Parkway Pavement Maintenance

Project Type:
Street
Project Status:
Completed

As part of the City's annual pavement maintenance efforts, contractor American Pavement Systems installed an asphalt rubber cape seal at Sierra Point Parkway between Lagoon Rd and the Highway 101 overpass. The first item of work was removal of existing striping and pavement markings and placement of temporary striping on June 27th.

Next, the contractor applied the first course, an asphalt rubber chip seal, to Sierra Point Parkway on June 30, 2022, and then a slurry seal was applied over the chipped surface on July 11 and 12, 2022.  Work hours were between 8 AM and 5 PM each day.  During this time window, a pilot car served to guide traffic between 9 AM and 4 PM.  Residents were notified of this along with the potential for motorist delays of about 5 minutes on the City’s signboards, social media, and weekly Blast.  Access to Fisherman’s Park at the north end of the work was impacted on workdays when new surfacing was being applied.

Installation of permanent thermoplastic striping occurred on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

This project was made possible by funding received through the CalRecycle Rubberized Pavement Grant Program. This program provides grant funding to public agencies that utilize recycled, waste-tire materials to perform cost-effective cape seal pavement maintenance. As a result of Brisbane’s participation in this program, 2,083 waste tires will be recycled, thus diverting their presence from a landfill.
