Previous Showcase - "Jeri's Journeys"

Jeri Sulley was born in Oakland, California and moved to Brisbane in 1972. She was raised by creatives; her mother was an aspiring fashion designer and her father was a commercial artist and cartoonist. One of her earliest memories is her father leaving half-drawn cartoons on the kitchen blackboard for her to finish. Jeri has always been fascinated with art and can often be found quietly painting watercolors whenever she travels somewhere new.

In high school during the 1960's, Jeri drew and sold portraits of The Beatles. She studied art and art history at San Francisco State University. Her background in art history and eye for design landed her a career as a slide archivist for the world-famous landscape architect, Lawrence Halprin, who she worked alongside for 30 years.

"Jeri's Journeys" is a surprise collection curated by her daughter Miranda Sulley. Miranda has always admired Jeri's joy and careful detail when creating art. This collection spans multiple decades, from Jeri's early work to her more recent paintings. Jeri paints the natural world in a whimsical melody of color. Her perspective tells the story of a curious nature-lover, painting scenes that are often overlooked.

General Art Gallery Information

Thanks to the efforts of Clara Johnson, former Brisbane Mayor, and Carole Nelson, former Community Development Director, the Large Conference Room at City Hall now serves not only as the main meeting location for city business, but also as an art gallery.  There have been many art shows over the years, which are generally accompanied with a Wednesday evening Artist Reception from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.

The Parks and Recreation Department is always looking for artists interested in displaying their work in City Hall's art gallery.  If you or someone you know is interested, please email brisbanerec@brisbaneca.org for more details
