The City of Brisbane Stands in Solidarity with Ukraine

Ukraine Flag in Community Park

At their March 3, 2022 City Council Meeting, Mayor Mackin closed the meeting reading this Proclamation expressing the City’s solidarity with Ukraine. Earlier in the week, we shared resources of how to help support Ukrainians. The Brisbane Lions Club has now set up a fund that will go directly to their fellow Lions in Poland.  From their counterparts: "Thousands of people are on the border with Poland.  Doors to Poland are opened.  Polish people have their hearts opened and offer refugees food, clothing, medicine, and accommodations.  Some people continue to move to the West - to other countries.  Some of them want to stay in Poland (before the war, there were over 1 million Ukrainians living and working in Poland)."  Thank you, Brisbane Lions, for standing up this site, and to all those that donate, thank you for helping refugees and displaced persons find the safety and security they desperately need.

City Hall lit up in Ukraine Colors

City Hall is lit up in blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine's flag, to show support for the people of Ukraine and the Ukrainian-American community.  This occurred on Monday, February 28th. At that time, we shared the following resources of verified organizations mobilizing to assist Ukrainians:

  • International Rescue Committee (IRC): rescue.org

The IRC is on the ground and is mobilizing resources to support displaced families.

UNICEF is scaling up its emergency response in Ukraine as escalating conflict poses an immediate and growing threat to the country’s 7.5 million children.

Again, thank you for your generosity to assist displaced Ukrainians and families during this most difficult and harrowing moment of their lives.
